Leila Barton

Leila’s paintings are full of vibrant, saturated colour and expressive brushwork. She uses colour to convey her emotional response to a subject, translating sensations into heightened hues. Her work is a celebration of the world around her – each day offering a fresh visual experience. When painting, she feels both uplifted and grounded, and aims for her paintings to calm the mind, spark the senses, and bring joy.

Her love of painting began at the age of 11, when she won a set of oils in a national art competition – a moment that continues to inspire her practice. After studying History of Art and English at the University of Nottingham, she worked at Condé Nast Publications before pursuing her true calling, enrolling in Fine Art Painting at Chelsea College of Art, followed by a Master’s degree at the Slade School of Fine Art.

Leila’s work has been featured in Country Life magazine’s My Favourite Painting, and she has undertaken commissions for clients including Dame Zandra Rhodes, the Jockey Club, and Cheltenham Racecourse. Today, she continues to explore the shifting light and colour of the English countryside alongside the rich vibrancy she encounters in her travels.
