Anna Schofield’s journey to becoming a full-time artist began after a career in criminal law and corporate business — a chapter that left her craving creative expression. A turning point came when she followed her heart, retraining in Art and Design and embracing her long-held passion for painting.

Inspired by travel and the natural world, Anna’s work reflects the places that stay with her — the movement of the sea, the texture of the landscape, the memory of light. She describes her art as a “landscape of the soul,” using colour and texture to capture emotional impressions rather than direct representations.

Her technique is rooted in tradition but carried out with a contemporary touch. She begins each piece by building texture with gesso or acrylic, then layers oil paint using both impasto and glazing — a process that creates depth, richness, and resonance. Working with palette knives, brushes, and even her hands, Anna’s paintings evolve over time, each layer revealing something new.

The result is work that feels both grounded and uplifting — full of light, movement, and a quiet emotional strength.
