Ben Jeffery
Ben Jeffery is a contemporary artist known for his vibrant use of colour and his ability to blend realism with a modern, energetic twist. Born in 1986 and raised in Barnet, North London, Ben’s passion for art was sparked early by his grandfather, who introduced him to the works of their ancestor, 18th-century watercolourist John Varley. That connection to artistic heritage has continued to inspire him ever since.
Ben’s work is diverse — from bold, expressive portraits to luminous landscapes — but always unified by his love of vivid colour and striking detail. His process is spontaneous and instinctive. While he often starts with a rough composition, he allows the painting to evolve on the canvas, selecting colours intuitively and refining form as he works.
Typically, Ben paints in layers: a base coat to map the tone and structure, followed by increasingly detailed stages. He steps back between sessions, giving each piece room to breathe before returning with a fresh perspective. Though he once explored digital painting, Ben found himself drawn back to traditional methods — valuing the depth and tactile quality of paint above all.
