Harvey Martin

Harvey Martin is a painter and poet whose work blends bold colour with poetic atmosphere, drawing inspiration from landscapes across the UK and beyond. After earning his Fine Art and Printmaking degree in 1996 — at the age of 40 — Harvey dedicated himself to painting full-time, first in the dramatic coastal scenes of Pembrokeshire, and later across Canada and the UK.

Frequent travels to Canada, particularly British Columbia, brought a new dimension to his practice. His plein air paintings of Northern Lakes and west coast landscapes gained recognition, including first prize at the Steveston BC Plein Air Competition in 2018. Now based in Ascot, Berkshire, Harvey captures scenes from Devon, Cornwall, and the local countryside, as well as evocative urban moments drawn from London — often illuminated by night or softened by rain.

Inspired by Van Gogh, Hopper, Kandinsky, and Münter, Harvey’s work is expressive, layered, and emotionally rich. He often pairs his visual art with short stories or poetry, allowing each medium to inform and elevate the other. His paintings don’t just depict a scene — they invite reflection, encouraging viewers to feel as much as they see.

"I paint what words can’t quite hold — those fleeting, wondrous moments where light, place, and memory meet."
