Free Falling I by Nigel Smith is a captivating abstract oil painting that explores the sensation of movement, depth and fluid energy.
Layers of turquoise, deep greens and bursts of coral drift across the canvas, creating a sense of motion reminiscent of currents flowing through water or galaxies forming in space. Nigel’s expressive mark-making and rich textures bring the composition to life, allowing the viewer to discover new details with every glance.
Nigel's thoughts on this collection:
"This one is part of a series inspired by forests. I have lived and worked around three forest areas - Epping Forest in East London, Charnwood Forest in Leicestershire and The Waitakere Ranges in Auckland, New Zealand. But really I think the theme has universal appeal. Woodland can be both relaxing and mysterious, spacious and dense. So much folk lore in many cultures comes from forest areas. I believe we have an ancient connection to these places and even if we seldom visit them in our busy urban lives we still see trees almost everywhere, even in the busiest city. I wanted to tap into the sense of being happily ‘lost’ among nature and the feeling of peace when we find a place where the traffic noise recedes in some ancient woodland."The painting balances bold colour with soft atmospheric washes, creating both drama and calm. It is a piece that invites contemplation while adding a powerful visual statement to any interior.
An ideal choice for collectors who appreciate contemporary abstract art that evokes emotion, movement and imagination.
