'I find the countryside magical - with its patterns, bright colours and organised segments of land, it invites you in to explore and breathe in the fresh air! That's exactly what 'Watching the World' is designed to do too - make you feel at ease, like time stands still, and to give a sense of space to enjoy. My landscapes play with interesting mark-making and colours which emulate the patterns found in nature and create scenes that have more to them than initially meets the eye. This piece was inspired by old, wise trees which mark territory and almost watch over spaces of land and frame them for the viewer to enjoy. By placing the horizon low, you get a sense of the vast skies and a feeling of relaxation, where I've then had fun painting colourful, dreamy clouds to complement the bustling country landscape below.'
