Discover a collection where art, music, film and nostalgia come together, as Gill Storr pays tribute to some of the world’s most unforgettable cultural icons.
We are delighted to welcome a brand-new collection from contemporary artist Gill Storr, The Stars Align, to The Circle Gallery.
Known for her distinctive approach to mixed-media art, Gill has created a collection that celebrates the personalities, creativity and cultural influence of some of the most recognisable faces in music and film.
From the unmistakable style of David Bowie and Prince to the timeless glamour of Marilyn Monroe, each artwork tells a story that goes far beyond the portrait itself.
More Than Just a Portrait
What makes Gill’s work so fascinating is the extraordinary amount of thought, research and creativity that goes into every piece.
Each artwork begins with a photograph of her chosen icon, which Gill strips back to its raw form. She then delves into the life and career of her subject, uncovering articles, concert tickets, reviews, memorabilia and other fascinating references that capture their story and the era in which they made their mark.
These carefully researched elements are brought together to create a richly layered background, building a visual narrative of the person behind the famous face.
Gill then works over the composition with paint, bringing colour, energy and personality to the surface.
The result is something quite special. Look closely and you’ll discover a wealth of hidden details, nostalgic references and fragments of history woven into each piece. From a distance, you’re captivated by the portrait; up close, there’s an entire story waiting to be discovered.
