Based in North Yorkshire, Andrea takes much of her inspiration from the vast skies and open spaces that surround her. Sweeping horizons, dramatic cloud formations and fleeting moments of light become the starting point for paintings that feel wonderfully familiar, yet aren’t necessarily depictions of one particular place. Instead, Andrea combines reference photographs with memory and imagination, allowing each painting to evolve into something more evocative and personal.

Andrea’s route to becoming an artist was far from conventional. Her first career took her around the world with the RAF, working in Air Traffic Control, before she later moved into Learning and Development within the corporate world. During the lockdowns of 2020, she began to reconsider where she wanted her life to take her and, in 2021, made the leap to become a full-time artist.

Working primarily in oils, Andrea uses a combination of brush and palette knife to build layers of colour, texture and light. Smaller works may be completed alla prima in a single sitting, while larger paintings develop gradually through multiple layers. Alongside her oils, Andrea also creates encaustic wax paintings, an ancient and highly tactile process using molten beeswax, resin and pigment to create extraordinary depth and luminosity.

At the heart of Andrea’s work is connection — to landscape, memory and those quiet moments when a particular view or changing sky makes us stop for just a little longer. Her paintings invite us to pause, breathe and experience that same sense of stillness.

Andrea was awarded the British Contemporary Art Award in 2023 following a public vote, and her work is now collected throughout the UK and internationally.
