Lucy Temple

Lucy Temple is a geometric painter whose work brings a sense of order, beauty, and meaning through traditional pattern. Trained by the renowned Keith Critchlow at the Prince’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, Lucy completed her MA with a focus on the sacred geometry found in ancient Islamic design. She now specialises in intricate watercolour compositions that explore the universal language of pattern.

For Lucy, creating these precise, meditative forms is more than just a technical exercise — it’s a way of connecting the inner world to the outer one. Her patterns echo the natural structures found throughout life: in leaves, seeds, stars, fish scales, and music — a reflection of the harmony that underpins all things.

Using only watercolour on paper, Lucy’s paintings are calm yet complex, traditional yet deeply personal. Her refined use of colour adds a contemporary voice to age-old forms, making each piece both timeless and resonant. Her work speaks to those drawn to rhythm, stillness, and the beauty of thoughtful repetition.

"There are patterns in everything — in nature, in music, in the stars. When I paint them, I feel more connected to the world, and to myself."
