Leigh Ferris

Leigh Ferris is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores colour, texture and emotion in richly layered, tactile compositions. Her paintings are instinctive and expressive, built through an experimental process that combines paint, papier-mâché, sand and texture mediums to create deeply physical surfaces that invite close inspection.

Leigh’s work is driven by a desire to understand what colour feels like. Bold, vibrant pigments flow across the canvas, pooling in folds and crevices, catching the light and creating a sense of movement and energy. Cracks, lines and ruptures often reveal flashes of gold beneath the surface, hinting at hidden layers and unspoken stories. Each piece becomes a landscape of emotion – raw, intuitive and completely unique.

Alongside her artistic practice, Leigh works as a specialist nurse in organ donation, and this profound connection to life, fragility and human experience subtly informs her work. There is a sense of intensity and vulnerability in her paintings, where beauty and chaos coexist, and where every mark feels purposeful yet wonderfully unpredictable.

Leigh’s pieces are not about literal representation, but about feeling. They encourage the viewer to respond emotionally rather than analytically, creating an intimate, almost meditative experience. Every artwork is a one-off, unrepeatable moment – a reflection of mood, energy and instinct captured on canvas.
