Quiet, contemplative and wonderfully textural, Wish draws you into an imagined landscape where land, water and sky seem to merge together. Layers of muted blue, soft grey and deep earthy tones create a sense of distance, while a delicate glow at the centre of the composition brings light to the landscape. Faryal’s expressive use of mixed media creates beautiful variations across the surface, with heavily textured areas contrasting against softer passages of colour. Part of the dreamlike visual language that defines Faryal Ahmad’s work, Wish isn't intended to represent one particular place. Instead, it evokes the memory or feeling of a landscape – somewhere distant, peaceful and perhaps just beyond reach.
